Martha Zawedde is a profound leader, educator, lobbyist, driver of social change and dedicated development practitioner. She holds a second class honours Bachelor’s degree in Community Development and Social Justice from Kyambogo University in Uganda. 

In school, she was known for her exceptional leadership as witnessed by the works she did serving as the Guild Representative Councillor for North Hall residence… the secretary, Disability Affairs of the Disability and Inclusion committee of the same Guild, the UNISE representative in the Kyambogo Government Student’s Association, as well as various positions in the Catholic chaplaincy of the university.

Her first career development was with the district probation and social welfare office where she gained knowledge in children protection and welfare, youth and women empowerment, elderly support and welfare, empowerment of persons with disabilities, family mediation, counselling, community education and engagement, WASH projects, to mention but a few.

Furthermore, she enjoyed profound experience in working with children with disabilities and special needs, most of which was during her work with Dorna Centre, Home For Autism. She also has a strong base of experience in basic education which has been gained through working with Agape Junior school Bukoto, Cottage Pre school Buziga, Bright Trust Primary School Mutundwe and Building Tomorrow Organisation Uganda.

In the health sector, Martha has gained the skills of HIV testing and counselling, psycho-social support to HIV patients, conducting community outreaches, TRIAGE, health education, and more.

In finance, Martha has worked as a cashier with Cafe Beta for a year and is currently serving as a treasurer in two savings groups.

For two years, Martha has been in the Building Tomorrow Organisation Uganda Fellowship, where she served as a cluster leader—responsible for up lifting the foundational literacy and numeracy skills of children in the underserved communities of Mubende district, Uganda. She has gathered a rich experience in stakeholder engagement, community engagement, collaboration and education, enrollment and retainment of OOSC, donor visit arrangements, report writing, etc.

Besides that, Martha takes pleasure in appreciating literature in its forms as well as networking. Today, she looks forward to sitting at that, serving as a General Secretary at The Age Academy.
